However the restoration of Browsholme Hall after the death of his cousin, Col. Robert Parker, in 1975, was his main preoccupation after retirement as a chartered surveyor. The hall, built in 14507 and inherited by his son, Robert, was almost uninhabitable, with foul drainage and no clean water supply, safe electricity or modern conveniences.

However with foresight and imagination, Mr Parker and his wife, Diana, restored the hall to a family home and welcomed the public from the to see a unique part of Lancashire's heritage.

The Parker family have a strong connection with Waddington, having since 1680 acquired the Advowson of St Helen's Church from the Tempest family. Mr Parker assumed an active role with the church and initiated the modernisation and extension of the almshouses, which his forebears established in the 17th Century.

He had a life-long and deep deep understanding and love of the countryside, being a keen sportsman and enthusiast of gardens and woodlands.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday at St Helen's Church, Waddington, followed by private cremation. Family flowers only. Donations to St Helen's Church Waddington or St Michael's Church, Whitewell.
