FROZEN in full flight by the click of a camera shutter, these two greyhounds helped Bob Patefield win the open section of Ribblesdale Camera Club's annual competition for digital projections.

Entitled simply "Yahoo!", it perfectly captures the thrill of the chase as the dogs speed towards the camera. Bob is a relatively new member of the club, as is second-placed Sue Marsden, whose prizewinning cricketing shot, "Take That!", froze the ball just after it had come off the deftly-swung bat.

Bob and Sue also received a third place and a highly commended, proving their consistency, with Stephen Robinson placed fourth with "Coming in Low".

Although still a fairly new medium, the competition for digital projections is fast gaining in popularity. There were four classes, including the open section, attracting 116 entries in Ribblesdale's competition, which was judged by Chris Speak of Rossendale.

Stephen Robinson won the portrait section with a candid portrait of the club chairman's wife, Sue Bradley, deep in thought while studying a music score at a Leeds Baroque Orchestra rehearsal. Mike Bartle received second prize with "Plantation Worker" and Ken Geddes was in third with "Old Man with bike", another candid shot taken in Wuzhen, China. Kath Baron achieved a very creditable fourth while Trevor Marklew had a Highly Commended.

Trevor did even better by winning the nature section with "Humming Bird". Jeff Cowling was second with "Gecko" and Stephen Robinson came third with "Singing Dunnock", while John Fletcher was fourth with "Sparrow Hawk".

The final section, Record, was won by Nigel Mallinson with "H. R. Geiger Girls", pictured. Nigel also came second with a second image from the same sculpture group. Ken Geddes was third with "Cutter Head, Salt Mine", while Stephen Robinson was placed fourth with "Salmon Store, Clitheroe Castle".
