ONLY two games survived the weather over the weekend in the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale Cricket League, both involving local sides.

On Saturday, all games were abandoned - Barnoldswick v Cherry Tree, Baxenden v Padiham, Clitheroe v Whalley, Earby v Read, Great Harwood v Edenfield, Oswaldtwistle Immanuel v Salesbury and Ribblesdale Wanderers v Settle.

And on Sunday, all games bar two fell victim to the rain - Earby v Barnoldswick, Great Harwood v Baxenden, Oswaldtwistle Immanuel v Edenfield, Read v Padiham and the derby between Ribblesdale Wanderers v Clitheroe.

However, Whalley’s game at Cherry Tree went ahead, as did Salesbury’s trip to Settle.

Whalley enjoyed a five-wicket success at Cherry Tree, in a full 45-over encounter at Preston Old Road.

Cherry Tree struggled to 97-9 in their overs, despite being 42-2 at one stage.

However, they were pegged back by Whalley professional Wilkin Mota, who took 4-27, and skipper Richard Palmner, who chipped in with 3-39.

Opener Mark Hadfield made 37 of the hosts’ total.

In reply, Whalley lost their first four wickets for 26 runs, but Mota (39 not out) and Simon Gorton (32 not out) steered the locals past the target with over 11 overs and five wickets to spare.

However, Salesbury slumped to an eight-wicket defeat at a sodden Settle.

The Red Caps were restricted to 83-8 in their 20 overs.

Professional Susantha Pradeep made 42 of those, with only Joe Rawlinson (11) and Ben Rigby (15) joining him in double figures in horrendous conditions.

Settle lost Aneeq Hassan for three in reply, caughgt behind by Nick Green off Edward Foster, but Robbie Davidson (26) and Mansoor Amjad (40 not out) mastered the wet track to see the hosts to victory.

Elsewhere, in Division One, the games between Brinscall v Clitheroe, Burnley Belvedere v Earby, Cherry Tree v Barnoldswick, Edenfield v Stacksteads, Read v Ribblesdale Wanderers, and Salesbury v Great Harwood were all washed out, along with the Division Two games between Feniscowles II v Baxenden, Padiham v Brinscall, Settle v Burnley Belvedere, Stacksteads Feniscowles, and Whalley v Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.
