Salesbury stayed in the hunt for promotion to Section A after beating Edenfield on a faster run rate on Saturday.

Cherry Tree need just two points from their final Section B fixture at home to Edenfield on Saturday to guarantee promotion, and will go up as winners if Earby slip-up against Brinscall.

But the Red Caps are five points behind Earby, and 11 adrift of Cherry Tree going into their last game on Saturday at Euxton.

Earby, meanwhile, are at home to Brinscall.

Salesbury’s final opponents Euxton are now out of the promotion chase, 14 points shy of the locals after their weekend game with Earby was abandoned.

On Saturday, Edenfield had first knock at Gincroft Lane, scoring 178-9, of which Paul Gallagher made 52.

In reply, Salesbury had moved onto 122-2, with Aneeq Hassan hitting 80, and Salesbury were ahead of the required run rate when play was rained off.

Hassan tops the club’s batting for the year with 704 runs, at an average of 39.11.

Games this weekend start at 1 p.m.
