Ribblesdale Wanderers cricketer Stephen Braithwaite is one of six new recruits on England’s tour to Dubai this month, but he has gone to every length to ensure he is well prepared in the UAE.
Braithwaite is part of a 15-strong England Physical Disability team set to play Pakistan in a six-match ODI and T20 series at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai.
The 28-year-old, a teacher at St Peter’s Primary School, has been doing plenty of research to ensure England enjoy a successful tour: “I’m really excited. It’ll be a new experience for me and I’ve looked into it quite a lot, spoken to people who have been and apparently it’s an amazing country.
“It’s my first experience of international cricket and I was chuffed to be told that I was in the squad, getting the nod was a really proud moment.
“This is the first time we’ll be out on the field since September, so it’s been a fair wait for me to get my debut. We’ve worked around each other’s limitations now.
“Everybody knows where they need to be at certain points in the game. We’ve become quite a professional outfit now.
“When we were training at Loughborough we spent about an hour talking to the guys who toured last time about what to expect and what not to expect, so we’re prepared.”
