A NUMBER of individuals and clubs from the Ribble Valley have made the shortlist for the Lancashire Sports Awards 2012, the largest celebration of amateur sport in the county.
In its 11th year, the ceremony to be held on Friday, September 28th at Preston’s Guild Hall, recognises individuals and teams throughout Lancashire and those committed to supporting amateur athletes and clubs.
The MWR Lancashire Sport Awards celebrate community sporting achievement through eight award categories.
This year, fresh from the Olympics, pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale will be taking part in a live Q&A session, along with Paralympian Graeme Ballard and middle-distance runner, Helen Clitheroe.
Individuals from the Ribble Valley shortlisted in this year’s seven award categories are: Coach of the Year (sponsored by the University of Central Lancashire) - Dean Sumner, Clitheroe Dolphins Swimming Club
Community Club of the Year (sponsored by MWR’s Funds4Clubs scheme) - Ribble Valley Netball Club
Young Volunteer of the Year (sponsored by South Ribble Leisure) - Bethany Tomlinson, Ribble Valley Netball Club
Rising Star 2012 (sponsored by North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce) - Kate Atkinson, Endurance Horse Riding
Adult Volunteer of the Year - Mel Diack, Clitheroe Youth Forum
Lifetime Achievement Award (sponsored by Banks Wealth Management Ltd) - Tom Haworth, Longridge Cricket Club
