History was made at the ground of Longridge CC on Bank Holiday Monday when the Ribble Valley defeated South Ribble to win the inaugural Lancashire Girls’ Under 11s Cricket Trophy.
This was the final of the 2010 competition, which wasn’t possible to be played at the end of last season, when the two sides had reached the final by winning group matches against other district teams in Lancashire.
The match was played in pairs format with runs scored being reduced by the number of wickets lost.
Despite the difficulty of bowling in a strong wind, the Valley girls bowled accurately, taking wickets at regular intervals, and South Ribble’s total never seemed likely to trouble them.
So it proved as a strong batting display saw Ribble Valley amass 85 runs for the loss of only two wickets to give them a convincing win.
