Read Cricket Club have confirmed the capture of Cape Cobras Franchise player Keegan Petersen as their professional for the 2015 campaign.
The 21-year-old will follow on from South African paid man Brandon Scullard who assisted with 455 runs and 84 wickets as the Whalley Road club ended the season as Twenty20 champions while qualifying for the LCB Knockout Cup.
Petersen, who hails from Paarl, was recently named as Cricket South Africa’s Provincial Three-Day Cricketer of the Year at an awards breakfast held in Johannesburg.
Over the course of the 2013/14 term, Petersen finished as the competition’s leading run scorer, representing Boland, with 965 runs at an average of 48.25 over 13 matches, which included a highest score of 225 not out.
Read second XI skipper Andrew Turner said: “Keegan’s appointment shows again that Read’s committee is dedicated to providing the club and the League with another young, talented and extremely exciting professional. At 21 years of age he fits perfectly into the balance of our first team squad and our commitment to young and dynamic players.”
