Read recorded the third highest total in Ribblesdale Cricket League history to sweep aside Brinscall at Whalley Road.

Captain Kyle O’Connor partnered Joe Marshall in a 160-run opening wicket stand before the former fell to the combination of Ian Chaplin and Sam MacLachlan for 87.

Marshall went on to bat alongside Elliott Artingstoll (37), pro Brandon Scullard and Conor Lowes as he fired his first senior century in a knock of 112 that included 12 fours and three sixes.

The hosts rounded the innings off on 334-8 with only Padiham betting that tally on two occasions, firstly in 2007 versus Ribblesdale Wanderers (355-8) and then in 2010 against Great Harwood (381-5).

In reply, Brinscall were 158 runs short as Scullard claimed 3-69 while Jon Harvey added 2-27.

“We’ve been told it was the third highest total,” beamed O’Connor. “It’s always good to be pushing records. There wasn’t one person that put a foot wrong with the bat. The pressure was off so the lower order went in and just had a bit of a hit.

“We were 160 for the first wicket. Everything just went perfectly for the batsmen. Myself and Joe seem to compliment each other. We’ve grown up through Read CC together so we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.”

O’Connor added: “It’s his first senior ton which is great for himk, especially with him being a homegrown player. Breaking that three figure barrier for the first time will do him a world of good.”
