READ slipped back to third in the Ribblesdale Cricket League after a weekend of mixed fortunes.
The Whalley Road team beat Clitheroe on Saturday but could not manage to defeat unbeaten runaway leaders Barnoldwick on Sunday.
Chasing down a Clitheroe total of 167-9, Read’s Jordan Clark hit 82 as Read finished on 170-5 to win by five wickets. The following day though they were bowled out for 219 with Barnoldswick losing just four wickets on their way to 224.
Clitheroe made up for their defeat on the Saturday though with a hard fought victory over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.
Batting second, Clitheroe scored 200-6, with Kashif Siddique top scoring with 61, as the Chatburn Road side won by four wickets.
Meanwhile, Whalley won at Padiham, who also lost at Salesbury.
Nesir Mehmood’s 62 helped Padiham to a total of 208 all out against Whalley but they were unable to prevent the opposition reaching 210-5 in comfortable fashion.
It was the same story on the Sunday against Salesbury who reached 202-3 in 33 overs in reply to Padiham’s 198-8, giving them a seven wicket win.
Salesbury also proved too strong for Edenfield, on the Saturday.
Playing at Ribchester Road, Salebury posted a commanding total of 262-4 thanks to Ian Rabagilati (54) and Ben Rishton (89).
Liam Parkinson and Stuart Hampson then took four wickets apiece as Edenfield were restricted to 219-8 after their 45 overs.
Whalley were unable to take the form they showed against Padiham into their tie with Settle the following day, slipping to a seven-wicket loss. Scoring 178-8, Whalley’s bowling attack never got going as Settle reached 179 for the loss of just three wickets.
Ribblesdale Wanderers put up a valiant effort against Baxenden who managed to win by three wickets after chasing down Ribblesdale’s score of 168.
They were in better form with the bat on the Sunday though, as Michael Erlank hit a majestic 150 to lead his team to a total of 269-6 against Great Harwood. Ian Britcliffe then did the damage with the ball (5-38), as Great Harwood were skittled out for 167.
This weekend Read are at Padiham on Sunday, after hosting Cherry Tree on Saturday.
Salesbury are away at Great Harwood on Saturday while Settle visit Ribchester Road on Sunday.
Whalley at home to Barnoldswick on Saturday and then Cherry Tree on Sunday, while Ribblesdale Wanderers host Oswaldtwistle Immanuel on Saturday before an away trip to Clitheroe the following day.

• CALDERSTONES lead the way in the Clitheroe Midweek Cricket League after this week’s games.
They travelled up to Chipping and were narrow 18 run winners over the Ramblers.
Clitheroe St James overcame Chipping A at Roefield.
Chipping A made 110 all out with Dan Wilkison and Jones making 30.
In reply St James scored 111-4 with Pete Oliver 30, Jon Carysforth 28 and Paul Earnshaw 26 steering them home.
The final game of the week was a cracker between Low Moor and Sabden.
Low Moor made 120 in their 20 overs with Charlie Collinge making 30 retired. Nick Burton took 3 for 11.
In reply Sabden slumped to 26 for 4 but Phil Parker and Dave Flounders repaired the damage both retiring with 30.
and they were both called back to the crease in the last over as the other wickets fell and victory was achieved off the last ball.
