Pedal power is key to SIS success
RIBBLE Valley-based sports nutrition company Team Science in Sport have won the prestigious London to Paris cycle ride - the amateur equivalent of the Tour de France.
Lancashire quartet Tim Lawson, Pete Slater - both from Preston, Andy Guy of Chorley and Andy Tinsley from Burscough rode for SIS in the three-day 514km challenge, braving flash floods, thunder and lightning.
More than 300 riders from all over the world took part, with famous faces including former Tour de France winner Stephen Roche, double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell and former England footballer Geoff Thomas.
Team captain Lawson, a director of Science in Sport, said: "London to Paris is the closest race a non-pro can get to the Tour de France, finishing with closed roads right in front of the Eiffel Tower, so to win the race is a fantastic achievement.
"We took great pleasure in taking part and seeing hundreds of riders benefit from using our range of energy, hydration and recovery products.
"Cycling is becoming more popular and we are proud to be involved with the sport at all levels."
Science in Sport boasts a long term heritage in professional cycling with Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman helping to inspire its first product Rego, a sports recovery fuel.
Science in Sport is the preferred sports nutrition partner to a large number of professional cycling teams including Team Astana, Saxo Bank and Rabobank - all of whom are taking part in the Tour de France.
There's no rest for the riders as Lawson now switches to track racing to defend the National Masters Pursuit Championships at Newport Velodrome.
Guy and Tinsley will be in Blackpool for the Premier Calender Road and Circuit Series, and Slater prepares for his Ironman event in Estonia.
