CLITHEROE Bike Club’s young triathlete Harry Paige kick-started the 2012 season in style at the Wirral Junior Aquathlon last weekend, returning home with the gold medal in the Men’s Youth Field.

Harry who is 15 and attends Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, romped to the finish line in 23:49 minutes almost a minute ahead of his next contender – proving that the winter training schedule is paying off.

Aquathlons consists of two of the events from a triathlon – swim and run – and includes transition between.

Harry completed the 500m swim in 6:39 and the 1,500m run in 17.10, and had a very smooth transition.

Having been chosen to train with the British Triathlon North West Development squad at monthly sessions, he also trains more locally with Clitheroe Dolphins, Burnley Bobcats, Blackburn Harriers and Clitheroe Bike Club.

Winter training is challenging with the cold dark mornings and cold dark nights, and so Harry is looking forward to training in some spring and summer sunshine, fingers crossed, to continue to prepare for the triathlon season.
