A CLITHEROE athlete has been getting valuable advice from true Olympian Dame Kelly Jones.

Robbie Schofield (21) took part in the “On Camp with Kelly” event last month at Tonbridge School Centre as he prepares for what should be an unforgettable year for athletics.

The weekend-long intensive training programme included circuit training, aqua-jogging and pilates. as well as a UK Anti-Doping workshop and a goal setting session with sport psychologist Dr Anna Waters.

The athletes were able to set out personal goals for the year and reflect on 2011, focusing on both the successes and where there could

Robbie said: “My main goal for 2012 is to get back running really. I have been quite badly injured for some time now so that is my real aim.”

Double Olympic champion Dame Kelly said: “2012 is a big year for all athletes, for those who are aiming to compete at the London Olympic Games as well as younger athletes for whom it will act as a massive inspiration as they move forward with their sporting careers.

“I was pleased to meet up with athletes from my ‘On Camp with Kelly’ initiative in Tonbridge to set the scene for the year. It was a valuable opportunity for the athletes to train together, set goals for 2012 and inspire each other to achieve their aims.”

“On Camp with Kelly” , supported by Aviva since 2004, is double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes’s mentoring and education initiative for talented young middle distance athletes.
