A dominant performance from John Parkinson saw him storm to victory when Mytton Fold Golf Club held their latest round of the Winter Singles at the weekend.
Played in challenging conditions over the 16-hole winter course, John’s 33 points were sufficient to beat off club captain Peter Main’s late charge and leave him two points clear of the field.
The fight for third was eventually won in the clubhouse as five players all carded 30 points. Graham Plant got the nod, and the cash, ahead of Steve Worrall, Dave Griffith, Dave Clegg and past captain Phil Hammond.
In the Ladies Section it was a win for Brenda Griffith followed by Allison Nuttall who just held off Tarja Wilson in a card playoff.
The Twos Pot was a three-way split with Dave Clegg and Jim Bridge birdying the ninth and Sam Cowan following likewise two holes later.
In the Winter Order of Merit Jim Bridge still holds on to a healthy lead, but John Parkinson’s win now makes him his closest challenger.
Right behind are Kevin Shanley, Ray Standring, Dave Griffith and Nigel Fairhurst.
In the Ladies’ Order of Merit it’s a three-way tie with Past Captain Doreen Hammond, Tarja Wilson and Brenda Griffith all on equal points.
In the Winter Pairs the best score of the week was recorded by Wayne Ivinson and John Welch when they carded an astonishing 45 points on a very wet Sunday morning.
Best of the rest were Dave Griffith and Steve Worrall who returned a very creditable 39 points over the 16-hole course.
Dave Halsall/Peter Main and Nick Avino/Martin Holden both scored 36 points to add to their best nine scores.
