Ribble Valley Netball Club have had teams playing netball across the length and breadth of the North West recently.
The club had a strong representation at the Chorley Inferno’s junior netball tournament in Horwich, with early 80 girls representing the Valley across 10 teams.
Fighting off competition from across Lancashire, the club ended with the winning teams in the Under 14s, Under 12s and Under 9s age groups and with runners-up spots taken by the Under 15s, Under 11s, and Under 10s, with a Ribble Valley one-two in the Under 9s, as their team of Under 8s finished runners-up.
The Under 14s had no time to celebrate their victory as they had to dash to Stockport, arriving with minutes to spare for their regular league game, which they won by a point.
Meanwhile, the senior section played their first games of the season in the North West Regional leagues.
With teams participating in both A and B groups, the Group A game saw a reduced strength Ribble Valley fall to a 58-38 defeat at Bury, while those making the long trip to Appleby to face Westmorland Wanderers were delighted to come back with all the points after a 50-45 victory.
The club’s Under 8s, 9s and 10s were then in action at a Greater Manchester Netball Association High 5 netball festival at Wright Robinson sports college in Gorton. The Under 9s maintained their good form against teams from Oldham, Trafford, Chester and Tameside, winning all six games. The other two teams had a more mixed day, but are richer for the experience.
And the Year 4 squad picked up their runners-up trophies from the Bury ‘Sport For All’ Year 5/6 Summer League Division 2.
