That elusive title shot that Michael Bisping has been so desperately seeking slipped away once again at the weekend.

The 35-year-old, who comfortably dispatched Cung Le in August, had his dreams of becoming Britain’s first UFC champion crushed at the hands of Luke Rockhold in Sydney.

The controversial middleweight lasted just 57 seconds of the second round as the former Strikeforce supremo executed a guillotine choke that forced Bisping in to submission.

The 30-year-old Californian set up the finish with a stinging head kick that sent Bisping crashing to the floor, and as the Clitheroe mixed martial artist attempted to scramble to his feet he was locked in the signature finisher, that transformed in to a mounted guillotine and finished with only a single arm.

It’s now Rockhold who looks in line to take on the winner of Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort for the middleweight crown.
