STONYHURST College has been awarded the prestigious Lancashire Schools’ Rugby School of the Year award.
Four of the school’s teams have played in the county finals this year, with two triumphant.
Stonyhurst was also chosen for its contribution and commitment to schools’ rugby. It fields a wide range of teams every week, and 48 teams from three age categories compete in its annual sevens tournament.
The Lancashire president presented the trophy to Stonyhurst’s director of sport Simon Charles and headmaster Andrew Johnson at the Annual Lancashire County Rugby Awards staged at Preston Grasshoppers RFC.
Mr Johnson said: “The great tradition of rugby at the school has certainly been reflected by the performances of our teams throughout this season, and I congratulate all the pupils and staff who contributed to this tremendous achievement.”
Mr Charles added: “This award is clear indication of the excellent standard and determination demonstrated by our pupils, as well as the dedication and commitment of our coaching staff.
“For any school to get four teams to the county finals is a quite remarkable achievement, and is something we are all immensely proud of.”
