Steve Korab blew the rest of the field away when Mytton Fold Golf Club held the latest round of their Winter Singles on Saturday.
Playing in a howling gale, the brave souls headed out dressed for the North Pole as winds of 60mph rushed through the Ribble Valley, with long drives towards the east the order of the day.
iven the storm conditions, Steve’s 33 points over the 16-hole winter course was an excellent result, and left him two points clear of second-placed Paul Ashworth.
For Jean Van Boeckel, it was Black Friday, double discount and January sales all rolled into one as he took third overall with 27 points and the only ‘two’ of the day, scooping a rollover Twos Pot.
Mick Kelbie and Tony Cross came home in fourth and fifth, both with 26 points.
Top lady on the day was Allison Nuttall, with Brenda Griffith and Lady Captain-Elect Tarja Wilson taking the lower podium positions.
Allison closed on the ladies’ Order of Merit leader Brenda, while in the men’s section just one point separates Dave Clegg from leader John Berry.
In the Winter Pairs it was a breeze for Gary Aldred and Richard Greaves, as their 38 points topped the charts.
Wayne Ivinson and John Welch, currently heading the league table, hung onto their coat tails with 37 points with John Parkinson and John Whittaker just one point in arrears.
