A double win at the 2.2 mile Cadwell Park circuit in Lincolnshire saw Mellor Brook’s John Holden race into the sidecar record books.

John is now the driver with the most wins in the British Formula 2 600cc championship – his long time passenger Andy Winkle from Stoke already holding this record for a passenger.

With two 14 lap races held over the weekend combined with a field of 22 sidecars, a large crowd was treated to two very exciting races.

Even with the Isle of Man only a few weeks away it was no holds barred from the outfits.

John had qualified on pole position for the race with an average lap speed of 80 m.p.h.

In race one he was on the charge from the start, battling with reigning champions Ian and Carl Bell. John held on to win by 1.5 seconds.

With even warmer conditions it was the same for the second race.

John took the lead and opened a gap on the Bells who had to retire on lap 12 due to a mechanical fault.

He took the win by nine seconds from championship rivals Gary Bryan and Jamie Winn.

A delighted John was pleased the two races had passed without any big incidents occuring.

He and Andy now hold a 60-point lead in the championship and are now looking forward to the Isle of Man TT where they will be hoping to win yet another sidecar trophy.
