JON Schofield may have missed out on being part of the spectacular opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, but the Sawley kayak star is vying to compensate with inclusion on the podium.

Schofield had joined K2 200m team-mate Liam Heath at a training camp in Barcelona as the pair looked to polish their preparations for London 2012. The dynamic duo recently retained their European Canoe Sprint Championships crown for the third successive year, beating German pairing Ronald Rauhe and Jonas Ems by the finest of margins, with just 0.00184 separating them.

Their next stop will be at the greatest show on earth, as they bid to add to Team GB’s medal collection on Eton’s Lake Dorney. They will compete next Friday, with finals scheduled for the following day.
