CLITHEROE’’S Samantha Murray is on the shortlist for the 2012 William Hill Sportswoman of the Year.
Modern pentathlete Samantha has enjoyed an incredible 12 months, having first won bronze in the World Championships in Rome, before claiming Team GB’s final medal of the London Olympics, taking a fabulous silver.
The 23-year-old, as you would expect, faces fierce competition if she is to succeed jockey Hayley Turner - the inaugural winner of the Sportswoman of the Year title last year.
Following the Olympics, the list of outstanding female sports stars this year is a long one, including Jessica Ennis, Ellie Simmonds, Laura Trott, Sarah Storey, Victoria Pendleton, Laura Robson, Heather Watson, Nicola Adams, Hannah Cockroft, Charlotte Dujardin, Heather Stanning, Helen Glover, Hayley Turner, Jade Jones, Rebecca Adlington, Katherine Grainger, Anna Watkins, Steph Houghton, Sarah Taylor, Zoe Smith, Lizzie Armistead, Beth Tweddle, Gemma Gibbons and Chrissie Wellington.
Just to be named among such stellar names is an achievement in itself, and you can vote for Samantha at www.wf-site.com/microsite/pages/6c74c22e06b7016e
