Robbie Schofield from Clitheroe has set his sights high after last weekend’s inspiring Aviva ‘On Camp with Kelly’ Get Together at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, North London.
‘On Camp with Kelly’ is the mentoring and education programme created and managed by Dame Kelly Holmes, established with Aviva’s support before the Athens Olympic Games.
It has been a great year for ‘On Camp with Kelly’ with two athletes representing Team GB in the 1,500m at the London 2012 Olympics - Laura Weightman and Hannah England - with Emma Jackson just missing out.
Dame Kelly said: “It has been a great year for me with the development of Kelly Holmes Education and seeing two athletes I have worked with so closely compete at the Olympic Games. ‘On Camp with Kelly’ was my very first education programme and it’s like almost an extension of my family now.
“The journey and changes I have seen in the athletes, since I started the programme in early 2004 has been quite incredible. I really enjoyed seeing all the athletes after such a busy summer, to share their highs and lows and look ahead to setting goals for next year.”
The workshops covered using social media and goal review and planning by leading experts in their field Sybil Ruscoe and Dr Anna Waters, comparing the likes of heptathlete Jessica Ennis and cricketer Kevin Pietersen.
Robbie, pictured with Chorley’s Alison Leonard, said: “Being part of the get-together has been an inspirational experience. It’s been great to discuss the experiences and opinions of my peers whilst taking part in the educational workshops and training together again. Kelly had a unique perspective on the games as a commentator and promoter after being an integral part of the team who won the bid; to hear her enthusiasm and passion was my personal highlight.”
