Samantha Murray had to settle for 29th place at World Cup 4 in Kecskemét, Hungary after being eliminated in the ride.
The modern pentathlon world champion had made an excellent start to Saturday’s final, recording comfortably the fastest time in the swim of 2:08.73.
In the fencing, Murray won 16 bouts to leave her still well placed overall, but she saw her chances disappear in the ride as she was eliminated on Zermatt, meaning she picked up no points and went into the final run/shoot ranked 31st.
She was 11th fastest in the combined event in 12:48, meaning she climbed two places to finish 29th on 1,044 points.
Murray had qualified in fine form for the final in Group C, as she sat first after the fencing and swimming disciplines.
Then in the combined run/shoot, Murray eventually took top spot with 1,045 points.
It was Murray’s secondWorld Cup event of the season, after winning the first in Sarasota, Florida.
The next event is the World Cup Final in Minsk.
