The moist conditions which faced Mytton Fold’s golfers over the weekend were mastered by Mike Chatburn when he carded an excellent 73-19-54 over the 16-hole winter course.

Mike’s handicap-reducing score left him just one shot clear of second-placed and new Order of Merit leader, Nigel Fairhurst (67-12-55).

Ian Shaw’s 74-18-56 gave him third on a card play-off, just shading Paul Ashworth’s 80-24-56.

The podium party might have been joined by a returning Angus Barr, whose card over the last 15 holes would have given him third spot, but a massive 21 at the first put paid to that.

It says much for Angus’ concentration, application and talent that he overcame such a start to his game!

Hazel Sellars’ 91-32-59 gave her the leading lady spot, with Jean Havard second and Past Lady Captain Doreen Hammond third.

Hazel and Tarja Wilson share the lead of the ladies’ Order of Merit.

With just two twos, Chris Chadwick and Frank Hindle shared the pot by birdying the 9th and 11th respectively.

In the Winter Pairs, Wayne Ivinson and John Welch were the cream of the crop, carding 38 points, with Nigel Fairhurst and Gary Ashton just one point behind.

The pairings of Ray Standring/Garry Davies and Dave Westwood/Richard Palmer both added scores of 36 points to their tally.

With a maximum of nine scores to count towards the end of season shootout, teams are starting to drop their lowest scores and the leaders are starting to emerge.

Currently Ivinson/Welch have a clear lead, ahead of Nick Avino/Martin Holden, with Dave Griffith/Steve Worrall lying third.
