On a glorious April Saturday 63 men of Whalley Golf Club gathered to contest the Monthly Medal.
Despite the greens not being easy, Martin Crabtree returned a creditable 73 to win the Medal and the First Division.
Rob Andrew was second with 74 representing the lowest gross score of 76.
Clive Rees triumphed in the Second Division with 75, narrowly beating John Harvey and Chris Thompson in a card play-off.
The two’s competition produced five winners - Mel Earle, Danny Liles, James Andrew, Dan Rodgers and Bill Banks.
Earlier this month, the lady members of Whalley Golf Club competed in an E.W.G.A. medal and Longworth Cup first round qualifier, with a handicap limit of 30 .
The top four in the event went through to the club’s Longworth Cup competition.
The conditions proved to be very testing for the players, but the winner Shirley Palich stormed through the field with a winning score of 88-17-71, followed by Maureen Board with 95-19-76, Sue Madden with 105-27-78 and Marion Chambers with 107-27-80 .
Last Thursday, the ladies held a fun Texas Scramble competition, which had to be reduced to nine holes due to the very windy conditions.
Playing teams of four with two scores to count, the winning team was Chris Thurston, Viv Birtwell , Frances Gierat and Carol Blackadder with a gross 39, nett 28.4.
