Uncontrollable circumstances denied Clitheroe karter Kirk Cattermole a perfect weekend at Donington Park.
The Ribble Valley racer, making his debut at the track, crossed the chequered flag in first place to win the second race of the 125 Open British Kart Championship.
However, having set the fastest qualifying time to secure pole position in the opening event, the appearance of the red flag forced the abandonment of the race with Kirk leading.
The speed demon also had similar misfortune in the 125 Open Grand Prix event over two-and-a-half miles .
Recovering from a slow start to climb from seventh spot to first, recording the fastest lap of the race in the process, tragedy struck on lap three when a fuel pump failure prevented Kirk from finishing the race.
Kirk, who would like to thank Magnum Motorsport, PFP Services and Joe Worsford & Cat Racing Services for their continued sponsorship and support, will compete in the first round of the English Championship held at Darley Moor later in the month.
