After being out of the winner’s circle for a few weeks, Jim Bridge was back in the comfortable position of heading the field in this week’s Winter Singles at Mytton Fold Golf Club.

His 71-17-54 was sufficient to take the win and to extend his lead in the winter Order of Merit.

Steve Korab (68-13-55) and last week’s winner Ray Standring (62-7-55) squabbled over the runners-up slot, but Steve took it on a card play-off. Nigel Fairhurst (71-15-56) was just out of the prizes but headed Kevin Shanley (74-17-57), Baz Hargreaves (73-15-58) and Gary Aldred (74-16-58).Tarja Wilson led the ladies home closely followed by Hazel Sellars.

Perhaps due to the very windy conditions, there were just two twos when Denis Leaver birdied the ninth and Jim Tierney birdied the final hole.

Most of the Winter Pairs were out, braving the high winds and moist 16-hole winter course.

Top scorers this week were Ray Standring and Garry Davies with 38 points. Wayne Ivinson/John Welch carded 37 points with Tony Wilson/Frank Havard just one point in arrears.

Last week Mytton Fold’s Seniors and Ladies played their seasonal Tuesday Trophy and Chicken Run respectively.

Chris Quinn topped the Seniors’ chart with 24 points over the 11 holes played.

Paul Ashworth came home second with Garry Davies third.

Judith Kay matched Chris’ score but achieved this over just the nine holes of the Ladies’ Chicken Run.

Lady captain Carole Maher finished second with 19 points and past lady captain Doreen Hammond was third with 17 points.

The day was rounded off with a joint Christmas Dinner, complete with entertainment from magician Dynamo Douggie with his glamorous assistant Philomena, a quiz and risqué monologues from host Lilian Hargreaves.
