STONYHURST Park Golf Club’s new lady captain Janette Dowdy recently drove into office.
Despite a cold afternoon, there was an excellent turnout for the competition, which was played over nine holes from a shot gun start.
Janette hit a good tee shot to get both the competition and her year as lady captain underway.
Winner of the nine-hole competition was Audrey Barnes, with Sue Kirk runner-up.
Kath Myerscough won the Lady Captain’s Drive.
The competition was followed by the presentation of prizes and refreshments in the clubhouse.
• WAYNE Ivinson topped the leader’s board when Mytton Fold Golf Club members played the Eurotrophy competition at the weekend.
Playing conditions improved as the day went on, the warmer weather drying the course as well as the sweat on the players’ brows.
Playing off the white tees for the first time this season, the longer course separated the men from the boys, and Wayne was the only player to break par when he netted 39 points off his handicap of seven.
Benefiting from all his recent time on the course, second-placed Mark Slater shot an excellent 36 points, one point clear of a recharged Frank Hindle - with a new battery in his trolley! - in third.
A card playoff pushed Gary Ashton into fourth, with a smiling Mike Mahon in fifth.
Even happier was Steve Brooks, who, fresh from his winter break from golf, was the sole player to score a 2, thereby pocketing the whole 2s pot!
• AT Clitheroe Golf Club, the Ladies’ Threeball Texas Scramble nine-hole competition was won by Marilyn Fletcher, Janet Bailey and Michelle Fielding with 35-05.9=29.1.
Second were Betty Trueman, Susan Johnson and Kathleen Townley (41-06.3=34.7) ahead of Carole Brown, Judith Bishop and Edith Child (42-06.5=35.5).
