A full field turned out last Sunday at Stonyhurst Park Golf Club for the first board competition of the season, the Chairman’s Chalice.

A steady round from Phil Snape saw him finish third with a score of 90-22-68, a shot adrift of Andrew Driver (84- 17-67) but the winner was Darren Holden with a score of 93- 28-5.

The previous week the ladies of Stonyhurst Park enjoyed their annual spring break at Garstang Golf and Country Club, comprising two rounds of full handicap stableford. The winner of the SPLASH trophy, with a score of 67 points over two days, went to Lady Captain Jan Walker, ahead of Margaret Carrington on 64 points. The prize for the best score on day one was Barbara Herd with 35 points, Linda Ashworth taking this honour on day two with 34. Additional prizes for the best front 9 and back 9 on days one and two went to Carolyn Blockeel, Jean Gentry and Sue Kirk with 19 points and Gill McDonnell with 16.

• On Thursday, the ladies of Whalley defied the weather to compete in a Stableford Competition, which included a trophy for the best score by a high handicapper .

Viv Lee came in with 32 points to win the High Handicap Trophy ahead of Fran Gierat with 29 points.

Karen Thompson won the competition with 34 points.
