Crowds were treated to a thrilling final in the Great Harwood and District Bowling Club’s Harold Blackburn Trophy competition.
Played at Clitheroe Cricket & Bowling Club, Steve Hindle was never in front until the final end. Ian Edmondson, with home green advantage, led 9 – 3, but Steve pulled it back to nine across.
Ian opened the lead up to 17-9, but Steve came back again to a single chalk, at 16–17. Ian then extended the lead to 20 – 16, and looked to have the game sewn up at the next end, when he produced an excellent lead bowl, no more than six inches at the side of the jack. Steve’s second bowl nudged out Ian’s lead bowl to leave himself two chalks and save the game. Ian was unable to recover as Steve snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
