In a week that saw C.T. Elliott and T. Thornber go out of the four ball better ball in the first round, Elliott came in with a 71 nett to take the Millennium title at Whalley.

Playing in a two ball with steadying influence P. Wray, Elliott had a 41 front nine.

Then back to back birdies on the 11th and 12th settled the nerves slightly, only to fritter the shots away with a double bogie on the 14th and then another on the 18th, but 71 was just enough to win the competition.

Second place went to M. Crabtree with a steady 72, third place going to new father to be D. Liles with a 73.

G Blenkinship won Division Two with a 74, second was T. Fowles, third place went to M.T. Seery with a 77.

Twos on the day went to C. Summers, C. Davies and C.T. Elliott.

At Whalley last Thursday, the ELLGA Handicap Scratch Shield and Annie Chambers Trophy Qualifying Round was won by Agnes Seery with 101-21-80; second was Bridget Rees with 102-22-80, and third was Karen Thompson with 98-18-80.

In the Stableford competition, M. Byrom was first with 17 points.

At Wilpshire Golf Club, the ladies’ Handicap Cup and Frances Smith Qualifier was held.

The Handicap Cup winner was Anita Alcock with a 90-15-75, ahead of runner-up Heather Deans (97-18-79).

The Frances Smith Qualifier winner was Deans, with Lady Captain Viv Walsh runner-up (119-30-89).
