MYTTON Fold Golf Club’s Captain Elect Peter Main was head and shoulders clear of the field in this week’s Winter Singles competition.

Playing over the shortened winter course, Peter’s 38 points from just 16 holes left him two points clear of runner-up Eoghan Gilbert.

Third spot went to Gary Aldred (35 points) ahead of a three-way scrap, with Tarja Wilson taking fourth, and leading lady, heading Steve Worrall and Nigel Fairhurst, all three on 34 points.

Tarja was helped in the card play-off with an excellent nine points over the closing two holes!

There were three twos. Captain Phil Hammond took his at the ninth while Tarja Wilson and Chris Hughes waited until the final hole to take their shares.

Nick Avino and Martin Holden pulled out all the stops to score a whopping 45 points in the Winter Pairs, some four points ahead of second placed Phil Ryan and Peter Fox.

Lady captain Doreen Hammond thanks all members and friends of Mytton Fold who helped and supported the Ladies’ Christmas Fayre.

A total of £385 was raised for her charity, Diabetes UK.

• THE last competitions of the Stonyhurst Park golfing calendar have taken place in recent weeks in rapidly deteriorating weather conditions.

The Blockeel family will be looking forward to a special Anderton’s turkey dinner this Christmas after John scored an impressive 42 stableford points in the annual Turkey Shoot.

Geoff Pallister continued his improvement in form coming second with 40 points and Roy Gilmore made a welcome return to the winners’ podium by coming third with 37 points.

Unfortunately the Pallister and Gilmore families will have to go hungry for yet another year.

The Mixed Texas Scramble was held on frosty ground and temporary greens. Adverse conditions are no barrier for hardened Stonyhurst competitors and after slugging back a tumbler of ginger wine, Joyce Kenyon remorselessly drove her team of Richard Moody, John Buxbaum and Frances Lee into first place with a score of 59.2.

The competition anti-doping committee surprisingly upheld the victory and the three ‘man’ team of Ray Robinson, Jim Sumner and Val Fairless on 59.6 had to be content with second place.
