CLITHEROE Golf Club held their lady captain’s drive-in last Thursday.

Gillian Eddlestone, who plays off 24, started her year in office, having been a member of the club since 1999.

Following the drive-in, there was a nine-hole, four-lady team stableford, and, interestingly, the lady captain’s team won with 50 points.

The other team members were Kathleen Bithell, Dawn Mills and Jean Anne Speak.

l PHIL Campbell came out fighting when Mytton Fold Golf Club held their first trophy competition of the new season on Saturday.

Playing off a handicap of six, his 39 points over the full summer course was enough to see him secure the Euro Trophy as he finished a full three points clear of the field.

Garry Davies took the runner-up slot with 36 points while Tony Cross (34 points) took the final podium position, just ahead of John Parkinson following a card play-off.

It took another card play-off to separate fifth and sixth places with Gary Aldred just shading Martin Holden, both having shot 33 points.

The weather – cold and drizzly – had a dampening effect on early competitors.

Peter Fox remarked that he could not get into his rhythm on the front nine as he and playing partner Ian Parfitt were hampered by slower players ahead of them.

Captain Phil Hammond also had an uncomfortable front half, scoring only nine points and several blobs – not ideal preparation for his Captain’s Drive In this coming Saturday.

There were just two twos with Allison Nuttall birdying the first and Nick Avino the ninth.
