Mytton Fold Golf Club’s Inaugural Lady Captain, Pauline White, celebrated her day with a highly-competitive and well-supported event.
Gary Aldred returned an excellent 86-19-67, earning him the win, a shot clear of Frank Havard (92-24-68), and third was Dave Clegg, whose 83-13-70 was the lowest gross, and enough to beat Nigel Fairhurst (89-19-70) on a card play-off.
Judith Kay took the ladies’ trophy with a 99-27-72 and a five-shot lead over Hazel Sellars (112-35-77). Close on Hazel’s heels were Linda Clegg (101-23-78) and Allison Nuttall (100-22-78).
Ray Standring won Mytton Fold’s Post Office Cup bogey competition with a score of +4 (beating the course with a nett 4). Runner-up was Nick Avino ahead of Dave Clegg, Martin Holden and Andrew Palfrey, all four carding +2.
Texas came to Langho when Mytton Fold held another fun team event over the weekend. Steve Worrall, Baz Hargreaves and Graham Plant finished nearly two points clear of Peter Kiddie, Tony Cross and Club President David Hargreaves.
Third place finishers were Steve Korab, Nigel Fairhurst and Frank Hindle a further point in arrears.
In the Ladies’ April Stableford, Hazel Sellars continued her winning streak by heading the field by three clear points from Judith Kay (30 points), Linda Clegg (26) and Tarja Wilson (also 26) and add to her Order of Merit lead.
Mytton Fold’s midweek April Stableford saw Graham Slater (35 points) take the win ahead of Dave Jackson (32) and Clitheroe Town Crier Roland Halewood (29).
Lady Captain Doreen Hammond won the April Medal/Annie Chambers Qualifier. Her 114-31-83 pipped Pauline White (105-21-84). Judith Kay finished third.
• Chris Thorpe was the star performer in Clitheroe Golf Club’s Medal, ELGA Qualifier and Castle Cup Qualifier with a remarkable nett 65 to win by four shots from Steve Connor.
Gary Speak’s five birdies put him third ahead of Jonathan Sheasby and Richard Lowery on the same nett 69 mark.
Junior member George Young’s 79-9-70 return was suitably rewarded.
Two handicap man Garry Byrne produced another three on Saturday to take the Division One Prize after a four-way play-off. Dave Heesom had twos on the 5th and 8th holes but had to settle for fourth behind Chris Silverwood and Mike Fearnhead.
Brian Stokes took the Division Two prize with a one-shot margin over Peter Pedder, who faded on the run in and finished with a nett 71.
Nick Brice claimed the Division Three prize ahead of Chris Sims and Ron Cornwell.
Mark Ashworth had the best gross 70.
The early birds took home the spoils in Sunday’s Fourball and the Nigel Clowes/Kieron Hunt partnership topped the Leader Board with 40 points.
Colin Mustoe and John Wetton had the best front nine, but Gary Speak and Mike Tattersall took runners-up spot after cards with the same 39 points.
The Ladies’ Foursomes and Coronation Qualifier on Thursday saw four pairs master the wind to score a creditable 29 points. Rosemary Fort and Dawn Mills were top of the prize list, and the in-form Lady Captain partnered Anne Hartley to take second. The two Patricias, Brennan and Murray, finished third ahead of Barbara Andrews and Chris Thorpe’s mother, Judy.
