A Clitheroe golfer became king of the county with a dominant display to win the prestigious Lancashire County Championship.
Club champion Mark Ashworth shredded the course record at Ormskirk Golf Club with a stunning final round of seven-under-par 63 to lift the title.
The plus three ranked player carded rounds of 71, 67, 72 and 63 to finish on seven under par, some nine shots ahead of his nearest challenger.
Ashworth left the chasing pack in his wake as his record-breaking final round began with birdies on the first five holes at the West Lancashire venue.
His run ended with a bogey at the sixth but by that time the Clitheroe man was well clear of the field and on course for the title.
Manchester’s Joe Brice, who had been the first round leader after carding an opening 66, saw his hopes effectively ended when he triple bogeyed the third to close on 79 for a share of third place with Ashton-under-Lyne’s Luke Kelly.
Reece Cranfield, from Wigan, finished runner-up, nine off the pace, after posting 71.
