CLITHEROE’S Connor Byrne was in action last weekend in Gemozac, France in the European Youth Climbing Championships.
And the 16-year-old returned with a highly-creditable 17th-place finish, emerging as the top Great Britain competitor.
The GB climbing team met at Luton airport, and they had a day to explore Saintes, before the competition.
Connor was competing in the 16 to 17-year-old category, along with 43 other competitors from 23 other countries.
He was placed joint 20th after his first route, and climbed fantastically well on the second route, giving him 12th place, and an amazing 17th place overall - with anopther year to come at that age group.
To compete against the Russians, Germans and Slovenians, to name a few, was quite an experience, and Connor would like to thank Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and LPFA for their help and support.
He is looking forward to travelling out to Slovenia for the weekend of November 24th/25th, when he will take part in a European Youth Cup competition.
This will be televised via 247TV.
