For the third time this season, Clitheroe 2nds lined up to play Thornton Cleveleys 2nds.

Clitheroe started at a rate of knots and using the wind cleverly they set up camp in the Thornton half. Thornton defended their try line well and all Clitheroe could manage in the first 25 minutes were a couple of penalties, expertly slotted by Kieron Keough.

The pressure continued and eventually the opposition try line was breached with prop Atkinson scoring after receiving the ball in his own half.Keough converted to make the score 13-0.

Returning centre Beary bulldozed his way to score Clitheroe’s second try, which again was slotted successfully, and the final score of the half came from flanker Hough. Keough converted to make it 27-0.

Thornton did respond with a try before half-time which was converted.

In the second half, Waddington took hold of the ball on his own 22 and took advantage of the field opening up in front of him, scoring a superb try to make it 35-7.

In the last 15 minutes, Thornton scored two good tries, to make the final score 35-19.

Man-of-the-match was tight considering the excellent tries scored but it went to Hough.

Clitheroe 2nds now take on against Preston Grasshoppers 6ths this Saturday, kick-off at 2-15 p.m.
