It has been an eventful few weeks for two of St Augustine’s top athletes.
Blythe Fourie (13)from Wilpshire and Joshua Boyle (13) from Rishton are both English National champions for fell running in their age group following a gruelling run in Cumbria.
The pupils were part of a team representing the Elker Lane school, with the girls winning the overall event which was staged in Kendal and being awarded the title of English Schools’ champions.
This was followed by more individual success for Blythe and Josh, who both won the Stonyhurst College Invitational cross country competition last weekend.
This success was even more impressive as it was an open-age event and the Year 9 pupils were racing against pupils as old as 18.
Head of PE at the school, Mrs Anne Smith said: “This is a wonderful achievement for two very talented runners.
“To have any student as a national champion is impressive, but to have two in the same age group is remarkable. They are an absolute credit to the school.”
