PHIL Isherwood, a long-serving member of Clitheroe Rugby Union Football Club, was awarded the prestigious Lancashire RFU Volunteer Award during a formal event at Blackburn.

Over the past 25 years Phil has served the club as a player, groundsman and honorary secretary.

Club chairman Andrew Thornber said it was a fitting tribute to someone so dedicated to the Clitheroe club, adding: ““Phil has been one of those ‘always there to help’ people at the club and has been relied upon to get things done.

“The pitch has improved no end in recent years as a direct result of Phil’s efforts, without which we would have had many more cancelled games and nowhere to play and train for both junior and senior players.”

Even though Phil is no longer an active committee member, he continues to help out with pitch maintenance and other administrative work and remains a key part of Clitheroe Rugby Club.
