Thirty six Ladies from Whalley Golf Club took part in a Stableford competition last Thursday, and despite miserable conditions in the afternoon , everyone completed their round. The winner was Anne Prior OBE with 36 points.
Margaret Calvert came second with 34 points and Maggie Harvey was third with 34 points.
On his retirement, Barry Bolton, Head Greenkeeper at Stonyhurst Park Golf Club, received a cheque from the members in recognition of over 30 years’ service to the club.
During that time he was greatly involved in the task of turning the golf course from one being protected by electric fencing and from sheep, into the beautiful manicured course of today.
The presentation was made at the end of the Barry Bolton Competition, which is played over 27 holes, 18 in the morning and nine after lunch.
Barry presented the trophy for the overall Best Nett Score over 27 holes to Alex Young, who won with a score of 102.
The other prizes were presented by the captain, Hugh Pennant-Williams, Best Nett over 18 holes was won by Richard Jackson with a 67.
Best Nett over nine holes was won by Lawrence Parry with 32.5 and Bob Driver with a score of 127 won Best Gross Score.
