After a relatively quiet winter, past master Gary Aldred shook away the cobwebs and played a stormer in the latest round of Mytton Fold Golf Club’s Winter Singles Series.
Gary’s 73-18-55 over a very moist winter 16-hole course gave him the win by one shot over Gary Ashton (69-13-56) and Dave Westwood (76-20-56).
Frank Hindle’s new handicap pushed him back into fourth with a 67-10-57.
Fifth home was Captain Peter Main (74-15-59) just holding off Steve Worrall (70-11-59), past captain Phil Hammond (66-7-69) and Garry Davies (72-13-59).
With the Winter Order of Merit leader Nigel Fairhurst absent, his nearest challengers Steve Worrall and Jim Bridge have closed the gap slightly, now both lying nine points behind the leader with two more weeks to go.
Hazel Sellars led the ladies home with a 96-32-64 ahead of Tarja Wilson (103-37-66) with the Order of Merit showing Hazel leading Tarja by just one point!
With Sunday a washout, the winter pairings who got their game in on Saturday stole a march on their rivals, with Dave Westwood and Richard Palmer topping the charts with 39 points.
Garry Davies and Ray Standring, and Frank Hindle and Mick Mahon trailed in their wake with 37 points.
Long-time league leaders Wayne Ivinson and John Welch failed to add to their total, having only scored 34 points.
