Lakeland runs rule over new arrivals

ROVERS Ladies manager Adam Lakeland has cast his eye over the club's eight new arrivals ahead of Sunday's home game against Charlton Athletic.

The Ladies Premier League encounter kicks-off at 2 p.m. at Shawbridge.

On Stacey Daniel (from Donny Belles) Lakeland said: "She came on trial in February, having not played for the best part of two years through injury. We gave her the opportunity to train, get fit and get into contention for the squad. She's got good pace, an eye for goal and provides me with a different attacking alternative to think about."

On Nicki Harding (from Everton) – "She offers a lot of experience having been involved with one of the biggest clubs in the country. She can play in several positions and is a very talented footballer."

Natalie Preston (from Leeds) – "She brings with her loads of experience. She commands a lot respect from the other players and is a big name in the women's game. She may well be 30-plus, but she's still fighting fit with many more seasons left in her."

Nicky Twohig (from Man City) – "I've worked with her in the past. She's a solid and brave defender, with good presence, and is definitely capable of playing at this level."

Nicola Hobbs (from Lincoln) – "She's involved in the England Under-23s and is young goalkeeper, who has never played in the Premier League before, but has got an awful lot of potential."

Michelle Walsh (from Donny Belles) – "She also came on trail last season and is a gifted footballer. She's got a good touch, with a wide passing range and good vision. She's missed a lot of football, so she's fighting for a place in the team, but she's a good addition to have."

Katie Williams (from Tranmere) – "She's a key figure within the Welsh national side and another one who is experiencing top-flight football for the first time, but she'll only get better the more she plays."

Karen Burke (from Leeds) – "Another player with a lot of experience. At 36, she's still as fit as a fiddle and another good old head, who is well respected at this level, to have on board.
