Teams brave awful conditions at Mytton Fold Golf Club

editorial image

SNOW and freezing weather conditions closed the course at Mytton Fold for the Winter Singles last Saturday.

But two teams of (fool) hardy golfers braved the following day’s slightly better conditions to post scores for the Winter Pairs.

Nick Avino and Martin Holden were out early doors and swept to 35 points over the 16 holes of the winter course.

Tony Wilson and Frank Havard were somewhat surprised to learn that the course was open and were later starters, coming home with 36 points.

With the best nine scores to count, Nick and Martin are now dropping their lowest scores, whilst Tony and Frank have yet to card the minimum nine results.

Club members were sad to hear of the passing of former Lady Captain Margaret Gradwell in the early hours of January 21st.

Margaret took over as Lady Captain in 2001.

She was instrumental in building up the ladies’ section at the club.

Though she took her role as Lady Captain seriously, she still enjoyed her game of golf and never lost her brilliant sense of humour.

Margaret enjoyed the friendly social away days, whether it be organising a shopping trip to Leeds or the Trafford Centre, or a day or weekend away playing golf.

During her year as Lady Captain she raised funds for her chosen charity, which was the British Heart Foundation.

She not only worked tirelessly during her year as Lady Captain, but continued to give support to the incoming Lady Captain-Elect and the club.

The club wish Peter and his family their sincere condolences.
