Peter is Main man with weekend win double at Mytton

MYTTON Fold Golf Club’s Competitions and Handicap Chairman Peter Main (pictured) took charge of the weekend’s competitions this week, winning both the Winter Singles and, with playing partner Dave Halsall, the Winter Pairs round.

Playing off a winter handicap of 18, Peter shot a nett 51 over the shortened 16-hole course on a cold and frosty Saturday morning. With milder conditions on Sunday he and Dave Halsall shot an excellent 44 stableford points to secure the lead of the Winter Pairs league.

Runner-up in the singles was the returning Scott Stanworth, who pushed Club Secretary Dave Clegg into third spot following a card play-off.

The fight for fourth was a three-way affair, with Mick Mahon just edging out Chris Hughes and Graham Plant respectively, all having carded nett 55s.

The twos pot was split three ways. Luke Chadwick started well by birdying the first, with Chris Hughes and Matt Walsh both doing likewise at the 11th.

Matt must have learned from last week’s winner, his father Mickey Walsh, as he chipped in his two from 50 yards!

With just two more rounds to play, Dave Clegg now has a very healthy 14-point lead over a chasing Mickey Walsh and 15 points ahead of Steve Rusyn in third.

With a potential 20 points available there’s still a mathematical chance of either of the chasing pair to overhaul the current leader.

In the ladies’ section, winner Lady Captain Elect Doreen Hammond extended her lead at the head of the table, with Tarja Wilson taking second spot.

In the Winter Pairs the Wilson brothers Tony and Dave carded their best results (43 points) of the competition.

Just their luck, therefore, that Main and Halsall did likewise and pipped them by a single point!
