TOMORROW night sees Hurst Green Football Club’s presentation night at St Peter’s Club, Hurst Green.
Several awards will be presented, including the Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.
The club will also be staging the third annual Hurst Green 5-a-side competition sometime in August, with the date yet to be confirmed, in the village on the pitch at Smithy Row.
The competition is to raise funds for the club as they strive to get their pitch and ground up to standard for the West Lancashire League - with the aim to get in by the 2012/2013 season.
Recently, over £7,000 was raised for Hurst Green FC and CC at their Sportsman’s Dinner at Ferrari’s Country House Hotel and Restaraunt.
A total of 220 guests enjoyed the evening, which was attended by England Rugby World Cup winner, and former Green star, Will Greenwood and comedian Mike Farrell.
Guests enjoyed a superb three-course meal, followed a hilarious set by Farrell, and then a fantastic speech from Greenwood, who was presented with his much-sought-after Hurst Green number nine shirt!
The highlight of the night was the auction, where five guests were competing for a signed England World Cup-winning shirt. With the price at £500, Greenwood stopped the auction and said he’d sign one for all five interested parties, raising an amazing £2,500!
Thanks go to Ian Barton, Neale Brown and the Hurst Green FC and CC Committee, who put in a lot of hard work to ensure the night went ahead, and also to Greenwood for taking the time to appear.
Meanwhile, the club have entered a team in the Catforth and District Summer Football League, and have won their first two games 7-1 in the First Division. The club play their home games at Canberra FC’s ground off the A59, and is being used as a pre-cursor for next season and to keep the players fit.
• WHALLEY Juniors Football Club are looking for a new keeper for next season when they will be playing in the Blackburn and East Lancashire District League Under 12s.
