'˜We can't just rely on home form'

Burnley have claimed all of their seven points this term in front of their own fans, having shipped nine goals, and scored once, in losing their three away games.

Their latest setback on the road came at Southampton on Sunday, losing 3-1, with former Claret Charlie Austin bagging a brace.

And Dyche acknowledges that his players need to translate their home form – where they have beaten Liverpool and Leicester, scoring five goals and conceding only three.

Dyche said: “We’re still trying to develop a group, and they’re developing through the knocks as well.

“At home we’ve looked a much stronger unit in terms of how we’ve gone about it, away from home we’re still searching for that real freedom to go on and take on the challenge. We’re still a bit edgy and sort of unsure of ourselves.

“At home I think there is a nice security about what we’re doing, so that’s got to come and it’s got to come quickly.

“We’re already eight games into the Premier League season and we’re going to need points away from home as well as at home, so it’s important that the team grows to understand that.

“But we’re coming to good teams, Chelsea, Leicester, and these are decent, make no mistake. They have a good threat and good players.

“We’re once again newcomers to the Premier League and there is a gap - a big gap.

“We’ve tried to alter that with spending some money, but it’s not about spending £20m, it’s about spending £80m to try and get quality in.

“We have to try and piece it together and add to the glue that’s held us together to get here. We have to develop as we do it, and that’s a big challenge to piece it together each week. There’s a disconnect at the moment from performances at home and away.”
