Stand in skipper Mee urges Clarets to keep things simple

While Burnley have been hard to beat at Turf Moor, the defender believes that the group have failed to convey those traits away from home.

The 27-year-old insists that the Clarets need to stick to their strengths to find success ahead of the game against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium and avoid over-complicating matters.

Sean Dyche’s side were out-Burnley’d by the Baggies at the Hawthorns and were consequently punished, something Mee acknowledges that the squad can’t afford to repeat against the Potters.

After getting back to their best against Manchester City, Mee said: “We need to sort it out and do better, which I’m sure we will.

“We’ll look at that and we will improve. We’ve got an honest bunch of lads who will work hard to do that.

“It was more like us (against City). We simplified things, we didn’t mess around too much and we wanted to make it uncomfortable for them and be something different that they’re not quite used to.

“We did that well and created a couple of opportunities, though we were disappointed with the two sloppy goals.”

He added: “It wasn’t like us (versus West Brom), we need to sort that out and play better away from home, we know that.

“We got that out of our system early doors in the week, we knew this was going to be a big game and the lads were up for it.”

Meanwhile, Mee admitted that he was privileged to wear the captain’s armband in the absence of Tom Heaton.

The former England under 21 international deputised for the goalkeeper - who had featured in 142 league games in succession - against the club where he began his career.

“It was good,” said the Clarets centre half. “I know I’m just filling in, it’s not like I’m taking over or anything like that.

“It was nice to fall on that weekend. It was a nice honour to lead the lads out against my old team.”
