Two superb strikes from Oli Shipston eased Hurst Green through to the fourth round of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup.
The blustery conditions and lively playing surface prevented the Green lads from playing their normal passing game, and they soon found themselves a goal down after 10 minutes.
However, the Green responded in splendid style and equalised a couple of minutes later following a slick move down the right.
In-form striker Shipston found himself out wide near the corner flag and, with the Kirkham keeper out of position, he smashed home a terrific equaliser from the tightest of angles to the delight of his team mates.
Within five minutes the Green went ahead following some tenacious work from Dec Barnes.
However, Shipston still had plenty to do as he left two defenders in his wake before drilling a superb left foot shot beneath the Kirkham keeper.
The pace and trickery of Green’s attacking quartet of Harri Yerkess, Tyler Baron, Shipston and Barnes was causing havoc in the home defence and resulted in a third goal for the Green, as an attempted clearance from one of the Kirkham players sliced over his own keeper and into the empty net.
Manager Alex Young’s half time team talk was disrupted by a couple of injuries to key defenders resulting in a second half re-shuffle.
To their credit, midfielders Tom Cattermole and Max Hutchinson performed admirably in defence alongside John Holden and Rob Atkinson and stifled any attacking threat from the home team.
On the one occasion Kirkham did break through, keeper Ben Armer produced a fine block with his legs.
At the opposite end it was a case of missed chances by the Green lads as they failed to capitalise on several promising situations.
The nearest the Green came to extending their lead was a terrific swerving 30 yarder from Cory Longton which smashed against the keeper’s right hand post.
