East Lancs champions progressed through to the next round of the President’s Cup with a comfortable win at Canberra.
The visitors took the lead on 13 minutes, Hickling curling a free-kick into the top corner. ThenMcLean’s clever header was controlled 20 yards oyt by Baygot and he sent a volley crashing into the net for 2-0.
Just before half-time the contest was over when Baygot’s cross was handled in the area and Fagan stepped up to score from the spot.
Canberra scored at the start of the second half when a through-ball was pulled back for a simple finish. On the hour Rimmy produced another quality move when Fagan found Baygot who pulled back for Benfield to finish. The score was 5-2 soon after, a flick on was well finished.
Baygot then rammed home his second before Walsh squeezed one in off the post following another fine McLean run.
Canberra scored their third with six minutes left but McLean had the last say when he cooley wrong-footed the keeper to round off the game at 8-3.

Read pulled a goal back following a defensive mix up before the speedy Ratcliffe soon restored the three goal lead. A penalty, following good work by the dangerous Luke Astin made it 5-1 and ensured comfortable passage through to the next round.
