As their first season comes to a close, Rimington Under 21s, led by Adam Hutchinson and Gary Kay, have had a season to be proud of.
Entering the West Riding Under 21 Floodlit League, played on Monday evenings with a “home” venue at University Academy Keighley, you would be forgiven for thinking that Rimington would struggle to entice players to play.
On the contrary, the pre-season campaign was met with over 30 players trialling for the squad, which was eventually whittled down to an extremely strong 19, including Scott Byrom of Clitheroe and former Blue Chris Bailey, who captains the side.
With all players living in the Ribble Valley area, there was an immediate close-knit atmosphere among the squad, which ultimately led to huge success.
In 10 league games against the likes of Harrogate FC and Guiseley FC, Rimington averaged 4.5 goals per game and won nine matches.
Their only defeat came against eventual champions Albion Sports.
Seven clean sheets accompanied the attacking prowess, with a back line comprising Clitheroe Royal Grammar School students, as well as Rimington senior players.
Rimington now travel to the West Riding FA headquarters on April 30th to take on Beeston St Anthony’s FC in the cup final.
Last Monday evening they beat Hunslet FC 1-0, thanks to a Dave Robinson header at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.
The kick-off for the final is 7 p.m. and Rimington would like as many fans there to support the team as possible.
The full address is Fleet Lane, Woodlesford, Leeds, LS26 8NX.
Rimington Under 21’s would like to thank ANP Milton Services for their sponsorship this season.
